His Word, My Seeking

"Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Matthew 7:7-8

Seek:to search for someone or something, to try to find someone or something. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

By definition, seeking is more than a casual glance about. Seeking involves effort and perhaps a bit of sacrifice. Seeking brings to mind the parables in Luke 15, Jesus tells of a man that had an hundred sheep and lost one and left the 99 to search until he found the one that was lost. He also speaks of the woman which had 10 coins and lost just one and lit a candle, swept the entire house and sought diligently until she had found it. Seeking takes a purposeful effort to find something or someone. It is more than an half hearted attempt.

Seek and ye shall find. That is what the Word of God says but what should we be seeking? Seeking good fortune? Seeking a new job? Seeking a new home or a new car? Perhpas but Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek ye first the kindom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Seek FIRST the kingdom of God. It does not tell us to accept the kingdom of God if we happen to find it in our search for other things. The Word says to seek it first. Seeking the kingdom of God is not going to happen by accident. It isn't going to be forced upon you but instead will require effort and sacrifice on your part. Seeking the kingdom will involve prayer, hiding the Word in our hearts and following God's will for our life. The great thing is that when we seek, we will find (Matthew 7:7). If we put forth the effort to seek the kingdom of God, we will surely find it. When we diligently search for the righteousness of God, we are assured that it will be found of us. It is after seeking the kingdom FIRST, that all the other things we could be seeking for will be added to us.

"Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and taht seek him with the whole heart." Psalm 119:2
